News to Plan Your Vacation Around
Fort Lauderdale, FL, - The Caribbean Journal has just named its choices for the best diving destinations in the Caribbean. Among them are Grand Cayman, home to the Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort and the Grand Cayman Beach Suites. Also near the top of the list is the beautiful island of Curacao with top flight resorts such as the Curacao Marriott Beach Resort and Emerald Casino, the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort, and the Renaissance Curacao Resort and Casino.
Delta Airlines announced a new weekly flight beginning August 22 from Atlanta to Bonaire to be operated on Fridays. Delta also operates a flight from Atlanta to Bonaire on Saturdays
Miami International Airport welcomed its newest international carrier, InselAir Aruba. The airline will operate four scheduled weekly roundtrip flights to Aruba on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and will consider increased frequency in the future.
Underscoring the popularity of the Dominican Republic as a vacation destination, the government reported that the Caribbean country welcomed 10 million tourists in 2013, an increase of 3.6 percent. Topping the list of the originating regions that gave rise to this increase were the British, German and North American markets. The country's resorts offer great deals on a wide variety of luxurious accommodations.
American Airlines on June 11 will add a weekly flight from Miami to Martinique for summer. The non-stop service will operate on Wednesdays. The airline already has non-stop service on Saturdays that was initiated in 2012.
Bahamasair announced that the national carrier has resumed its regularly-scheduled flights to the island of Mayaguana. Mayaguana is the most easterly island in the Bahamas. The government is seeking to develop new opportunities for the lightly populated island, with a focus on tourism.
JetBlue has expanded its Caribbean routes with the addition of four new routes. Non-stop service is now available from the US to Montego Bay, Jamaica, Port of Spain, Trinidad, and Punta Cana and Santiago in the Dominican Republic.
The Sandals LaSource Grenada Resort & Spa is now open. This is Sandals' first resort on Grenada. It features 225 rooms and suites in three villages, with nine restaurants, three swimming pools and two river pools.
