Every couple must do the following:

  • Complete and submit a “Notice of Intended Marriage” form (including full names and residential addresses) to the Bermuda Registrar General within 3 months of the intended wedding date.  Forms are available online from the Registrar General.
  •  Pay a fee in the form of a cashier’s check or bank draft made payable to the Accountant General, Hamilton, Bermuda, or a credit card payment must accompany the form.  Personal checks are not accepted.
  • Copies of final divorce decrees or death certificates must accompany the “Notice of Intended Marriage” form for all persons previously married.

The Registry staff publishes the “Notice of Intended Marriage” twice in Bermuda newspapers.  There is a 15 day waiting period from the receipt date of the Notice by the Registry before the Registrar General will issue the license to marry.  If there are no formal objections, the license will be issued.  It is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

The address of the Registrar is:  Registrar General, Government Administration Building, 30 Parliament Street, Hamilton HM 12, Bermuda.  www.RegistryGeneral.gov.bm.

Marriages are performed by either a registered Marriage Officer of a Church or the Registrar or Assistant Registrar General at the Registry Office.  Justices of the peace are not authorized to perform weddings.

Bermuda can accommodate you wedding regardless of your faith or denomination.  There are no rabbis in residence on the island but a wedding consultant can arrange the necessary paperwork for your rabbi to perform your ceremony.

Non-resident Roman Catholics can be married in certain Catholic Churches in Bermuda.  Consult “Requirements for non-resident Marriages” on the website of the Roman Catholic Church (www.dobcc.bm) for specific information.
