Legal Requirements For Getting Married In Anguilla

To get married in Anguilla you must be resident on the island for a minimum of 48 hours, in order to make an application for a marriage licence at the Court Registry..  The following documents are required:

Both parties must present proof of identity (valid passport, birth certificate etc).

If divorced, the original decree must be presented. If documents are not in English, a certified translation along with the original certificate in the foreign language must be presented.

Two witnesses are required

If a spouse from a previous marriage is deceased, the original death certificate must be presented and a certified copy in English.

If parties are under the age of 18, consent must be presented.

Produce EC$100.00 or its equivalent of US$37.20 worth of Anguilla stamps, which can be obtained from the General Post Office in Anguilla.

The cost of the marriage license is EC$650.00 or its equivalent of US$241.80

European countries usually stipulate that an Apostile is attached to the Marriage certificate. (An Apostile is a standard certification attesting the validity of a document obtained in a foreign country). The cost of an Apostile is EC$150.00 / US$55.80 cash or by Travellers Cheques. The Apostile can be obtained at The Ministry of Finance in Anguilla.
