About The Islands Of The Bahamas

The Islands of The Bahamas consist of 700 islands that cover 70,000 square miles.  Thirty of the islands are populated.  All the islands stretch for 750 miles from the southern tip of Florida to Haiti.  Because of the diversity and size of this country, A Bahamas wedding is one of the most popular in the world. The Bahamas provides many options when you are looking for a Caribbean wedding and honeymoon.

ACCOMMODATIONS – The selections range from the small, intimate properties to the mega-resorts.

CALLING THE BAHAMAS – The local area code is 242

COMMUNICATION – The Bahamas is linked directly with the International Telecommunications Network, which can connect you to countries worldwide.  Cellular service is available and you should check with your carrier about the international rates for the Bahamas.

CREDIT CARDS – All major credit cards are accepted on Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama.  Not all the hotels and restaurants on the Family Islands take credit cards, although most take American Express, Mastercard and Visa.

CURRENCY – The unit of currency is the Bahamian Dollar, which is equal to the US dollar.  Both currencies are accepted everywhere.

ELECTRICITY – 120 volt, which is the same as the US.

TIME – Eastern Standard Time is used on all of the islands.  April to October is Eastern Daylight Time, in conjunction with U.S. summer hours.

WHAT TO WEAR – Casual but proper dress is suggested for the daytime.  Nighttime may require a light sweater, depending on the ocean breeze.  Formal attire is rarely needed for any occasion; however, there are elegant and fine dining spots in both Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama where you will want to dress in island evening attire. Nassau/Paradise Island is the ideal destination for nightlife in The Islands of The Bahamas.
